The patient’s role is changing. The caregiver’s role is changing.

Old known outsiders are taken into account when we talk about care and prevention. What are the consequences hereof for the organization of health care. What will we consider important and on what starting points are we going to build new care organizations (if we are going to do so at all).

 

Building visionary care organization sforthe future asksfor two things: avision and leadership. Leader ship in health care is actually seen as management, a controlling role. Before we explained that it is no longer sufficient to think on the basis of control and avoiding risks. Cooperation and sharing knowledge are the only way to continue to take part in the health care process. A smoothly running electronic patient file and advanced communication techniques can help in this process.

 

The healthcare sector has its core purpose: good health for all human beings. However, the vision as to how this core purpose can and should be realized is changing. Right now, the care sector optimizes in manageability: risk prevention is rampant and ownership of treatment is still in the medical establishment. Not only the choice of treatment but also the choice of the therapist is something about which the patient has no say.

 

Because the ownership of the treatment lies with the therapist, the latter is also responsible. The choice to strive for minimum risk is therefore a strive for minimum responsibility and minimum claim on the responsibility of the therapist.
